Kathleen A. Janics (Katie) is a Partner in Berding | Weil and legal counsel to community associations throughout Southern California. She has been a member of the California State Bar since 1990. Ms. Janics devotes her practice to advising homeowners associations and their boards on all aspects of community association law, including without limit, corporate governance, fiduciary duties, statutory compliance, contracts, governing document interpretation and amendment, enforcement of governing documents, Fair Housing Act, and other issues pertinent to community associations.
Ms. Janics received both her Bachelor of Science and her Master of Science degrees from the University of Southern California before attending the University of San Diego, where she received her Juris Doctor Degree and graduated cum laude. Ms. Janics served as an intern for the Honorable Richard Huffman, Fourth District Court of Appeal while attending law school at USD. She began practicing in 1990 as a real estate attorney with an emphasis in the creation of community associations and representation of developer entities. Ms. Janics switched her focus to representation of community associations in 1993 and has exclusively represented community associations since that time.
Ms. Janics is an active member of the Community Association Institute (CAI) and the California Association of Community Managers (CACM). She has served on the Executive Board of Directors for the Orange County Chapter of CAI and has served on and chaired various committees for CAI and CACM. Ms. Janics is a frequent author and presenter of issues pertinent to the community association industry.
