Rebecca Filipović is a partner in Berding|Weil's Construction Litigation Group and specializes in complex construction defect litigation. Ms. Filipović represents commercial and residential real estate clients including developers, landlords, management companies and condominium and community associations in California and Hawaii. Ms. Filipovićs practice focuses on construction-related litigation, covenant enforcement and real property disputes. Ms. Filipović also acts as general counsel to Berding|Weil's condominium and homeowner association clients on issues of fiduciary responsibility, conflicts of interest, enforcement and statutory compliance.
Ms. Filipović also maintains a substantial intellectual property practice, regularly prosecuting matters before the United States Patent and Trademark Office on behalf of Berding|Weil's business and association clients and represents clients before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board
Ms. Filipović started her career at a large multi-national commercial law firm in Toronto, Canada, where she practiced in the areas of corporate governance and commercial litigation. Since relocating to Maui in 2011, Ms. Filipović has focused on real estate and construction litigation. Ms. Filipović was an integral part of the litigation team that recovered $29.5 million in a complex construction defect case that proceeded to trial in 2017, involving a large Oahu condominium project with over 500 single family and multi-family units. Ms. Filipović also helped negotiate a $145 million settlement for repairs to a luxury Honolulu high-rise condominium tower. Ms. Filipović was lead counsel in negotiating a $9 million settlement for repairs to a resort property located in Wailea, Maui.
Ms. Filipović received her Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto in 2010. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors, from York University in Toronto, Canada, in 2007.
