Berding & Weil seeks litigation associate to join active Construction Defect litigation team (Walnut Creek Office). Must have at least 3 years of litigation experience on either plaintiff or defense side. Construction defect and common interest development experience a plus.

Preferred Candidate will be a self-starter and personable. Must be able to effectively develop relationships with clients and peers with minimal supervision. Strong writing, communication, research, organization, and analytical skills, as well as time billing experience, are a must.

Preferred Candidate should have 3 to 8 years of relevant litigation experience such as assisting with mediation and dispute resolution, practicing in the courtroom, preparing pleadings, motions, written and expert discovery, settlement agreements, and taking and defending depositions. Prior experience with community association, land use, municipal, title, or insurance litigation is required. Trial experience is a plus, but not essential.

Berding & Weil is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable litigation paralegal for their Walnut Creek Office. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. Candidates must be able to perform a wide range of case-related duties under the supervision of attorneys in all phases of the litigation process from discovery through the post-trial judgement enforcement process.

Job Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Daily interaction with clients, expert witnesses, opposing counsel in both written and verbal communication to facilitate progress of cases.
  • Assist with drafting discovery requests and responses as well as preparing subpoenas for business records.
  • Assist with preparation of witnesses for trial and deposition.
  • Management of document organization and production processes (hard copy and electronic) and corresponding support system.
  • Assist with the preparation and presentation of trial exhibits.
  • Assist with evaluating and assessing case documents for factual relevancy.
  • Public records searches.
  • Pacer and Westlaw databases.

Qualified Candidates will possess the following:

  • 5-7 years of experience as a litigation paralegal.
  • Paralegal Certificate or equivalent degree.
  • Must know MS Office, Pacer and Westlaw databases. Knowledge of Eclipse software is a plus.
  • Must understand HOA assessment and lien, judgment enforcement and collection procedures.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Bi-Lingual is a plus.

Our Walnut Creek Office is seeking a full-time Receptionist/Administrative Assistant. Office experience and customer service is required, legal experience is not, but is a plus.

Our ideal candidate has extraordinary customer service, communication, and professional skills. You will handle all incoming calls for our multiple offices and greet all clients, guests, and vendors. The role is a large part hospitality. Coordinating the front end is critical for a smooth-running office.

Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing conference room and firm vacation calendar.

  • Answer phone calls & direct them to the appropriate party.
  • Receive, record deliveries and coordinate with Office Services to distribute.
